Quantification for uncovered plants – gas-based quantification methodology
Wenzel Gruber, Adriano Joss, Kevan Brian, Elliot Lee, Gerhard Wiegleb, Manuel Layer, Daniel Braun, Lucien BiolleySummary
This chapter presents a practical, field-ready protocol for monitoring and quantifying nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from full-scale water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs), with a focus on uncovered systems. Because N2O emissions show strong spatial and temporal variability, reliable quantification requires continuous, high-resolution monitoring. The chapter presents hood off-gas monitoring systems as a best practice for submerged diffuser aeration bioreactors, due to their flexibility, suitability for multiplexing, and ability to capture spatial variability across basins.
