Pyraclostrobin‐loaded one‐dimensional supramolecular fibers with improved fungicidal efficacy and fish safety

Abstract

BACKGROUND

Although pyraclostrobin (Pyr) exhibits broad‐spectrum and high‐efficacy activity against plant diseases caused by Ascomycetes , Basidiomycetes , and Deuteromycetes , its application in paddy field is deeply limited, due to its high fish toxicity and the environmental risks of conventional formulations.

RESULTS

This work constructed a pyraclostrobin‐loaded supramolecular fiber (Pyr‐Fiber) with one‐dimensional fibrous structure via in‐situ self‐assembly of hydrazide and aldehyde molecules without any additives. The Pyr‐Fiber showed enhanced rainfastness performance than the commercial pyraclostrobin emulsifiable concentrate (Pyr‐EC) and pyraclostrobin microcapsule suspension (Pyr‐MC), as well as higher fungicidal efficacy (88.15%) against rice blast than Pyr‐MC (77.59%). Pyr‐Fiber could reduce acute toxicity to zebrafish to a level comparable to that of Pyr‐MC, indicating its potential as a safe pesticide carrier in paddy fields.

CONCLUSION

This fiber represents a novel formulation platform with improved rainfastness, and moderately reduced safety to aquatic organisms. This study offers a promising approach to achieve both effective plant disease control and environmental compatibility in sustainable agriculture. © 2026 Society of Chemical Industry.
