Putting Danish recycling film practices on the map: A quantitative analysis of Danish sequel, remake and adaptation productions of the twenty-first century
Atalya De CockUsing a database study of Danish fiction films released between 2000 and 2020, this article shows that recycling film practices – adaptation, sequelization and remaking – are vital to Danish cinema. These strategies draw on national intellectual properties (IPs) and sustain cultural heritage, enabling Denmark’s film industry to compete domestically with Hollywood in an increasingly IP-driven market.
