PTSA Catalyzed Synthesis of α‐Alkoxy Ketones from α‐Hydroxy Ketones via α‐Carbonyl Cation

Although the synthesis of α‐alkoxy ketones from enolates has been well explored, reports involving α‐carbonyl cation remain limited. Herein, we report pTSA catalyzed synthesis of α‐alkoxy ketones from α‐hydroxy ketones using trialkyl orthoformates as alkoxylating reagents. This approach also enables the efficient replacement of the hydroxyl group in α‐hydroxy carbonyl compounds with both simple and long‐chain alkoxy groups, providing access to a broad range of α‐alkoxylated carbonyl derivatives.
