Pt-Vulcan Nanocomposites: Efficient Catalyst for the Methanolysis of Ammonia-Borane

Elif Şeki Demirci, Kenan Çakmak, Melike Sevim

Herein, we report monodisperse platinum nanoparticles supported on Vulcan Carbon. Pt-Vulcan, a highly efficient and cost-effective nanocomposite, was employed for the methanolysis of ammonia-borane. The Pt-Vulcan catalyst was characterized using advanced analytical techniques, including TEM, XRD, XPS, and ICP-MS. Following detailed characterization, the Pt-Vulcan catalyst was used to methanolize ammonia-borane under mild conditions. It exhibited a high TOF of 265 min−1 and was recyclable as a methanolysis catalyst. The activation energy for the methanolysis of ammonia-borane catalyzed by Pt-Vulcan was determined to be Ea = 42.5 kJ/mol.
