Protocol: Service Learning Interventions Effectiveness in Tertiary Education: A Systematic Review
Patricia Ayllón-Salas, Mirian Hervás-Torres, Francisco D. Fernández-Martín, Marta Pellegrini, Jose L. Arco-Tirado, Andrew FurcoObjectives: This is a protocol for a Campbell systematic review (intervention). The objective is to gather empirical research on service learning interventions implemented in tertiary education and evaluate and synthesize the results. Specifically: (a) to examine the effectiveness of service learning interventions across a broad range of disciplines and institutions on tertiary education students’ academic and learning, socio-emotional, civic, career and employment, and community outcomes; (b) to estimate how much this effect varies across the academic and learning, socio-emotional, civic, career and employment, and community outcomes; (c) to identify potential moderators of treatment effects; and (d) to identify evidence gaps with regard to the effectiveness of interventions currently in use. The importance of conducting this review lies in the fact that it covers a larger number of outcomes and follows the high-quality standards for systematic reviews supported by The Campbell Collaboration.
