Prevention of decline in the level of psychophysical state of elderly individuals with dementia through adaptive physical education

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using a technology of adaptive physical education (APE) sessions aimed at preventing the decline in the psychophysical state of elderly individuals with dementia, taking into account the degree of mobility and the stage of the disease. Research methods and organization. The pedagogical experiment was conducted at the Koltushsky Center for Social and Diaconal Services for the population over a period of 7 months. In order to assess the effectiveness regarding the psychophysical state of the experiment participants (elderly individuals with dementia), testing was organized before and after the implementation of the technology of sessions using adaptive physical education (APE) means. The session technology included the following methods: the Barthel Index of Activities of Daily Living, the Berg Balance Scale, the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) for assessing the level of physical functioning, and a test for manipulative hand function. Research results and conclusions. It was revealed that the use of the technology of sessions using adaptive physical education (APE) means, in particular, breathing and joint gymnastics, neurobics, cognitive and rhythmic gymnastics, seated movement games, Nordic walking, work-related actions, and artistic practices, contributes to the stabilization of the psychophysical state of elderly individuals with dementia.
