Pressure effect on magnetic susceptibility of SmIn3 and DyIn3

A. Czopnik, A. S. Panfilov, I. V. Svechkarev

Pressure dependence of magnetic susceptibility of SmIn3 and DyIn3 compounds up to 2 kbar was measured at 78 and 295 K. Results are discussed in the framework of Van Vleck theory by taking into account the exchange interaction f and the Sm3+ ion ground state splitting Δ by the crystalline electric field. Supposing the value of d In I/d In V = − 2.8, which was found in DyIn3, the same in both compounds, the derivatives with respect to volume d In Δ/d In V = − 6.7 and d In χd/d In V = 1.9 in SmIn3 are obtained. The scale of d-band contribution χd into SmIn3 susceptibility is close to one in DyIn3.
