Predictive Policing

Predictive policing is one of the future forms of policing that can transform police organisations to improve crime prevention efforts. It is supported by technological progress such as big data, high-level modelling, data science, computing technology innovations, and artificial intelligence, which enable better predictive policing. However, some challenges remain, such as data availability, model accuracy, human resource constraints, tools and technologies, and ethical dilemmas. Thus, the objective of this paper is to review predictive policing to gain a complete understanding of how to bridge current developments, opportunities, and future trends. The paper selected 23 pieces of literature to present diverse relations between predictive policing and its implementation. The main finding of this paper is that there is a lot of room for predictive policing to be implemented across different scenarios and goals, with varying cases. Therefore, it will be one of the future choices for crime prevention in a dynamic environment and amid rapid technological change worldwide. In addition, adopting predictive policing with adjusted practical steps can support the future development of police transformations. In doing so, the proposed model is presented in this paper to provide general views on the future implementation of predictive policing.
