Potential strategies for managing chronic nonspecific lower back pain with the fixed-dose combination Dorsumio
O.A. ShavlovskayaLower back pain (LBP) is discomfort localized between the twelfth pair of ribs and the gluteal folds. Chronic LBP, defined as pain persisting for 12 weeks or longer, is a significant global health concern, with a worldwide prevalence of 7.5% in 2017. In a Russian epidemiological study, the lower back was the most frequent site of chronic pain, accounting for 37% of cases. Among pharmacological interventions for LBP, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and centrally acting muscle relaxants are most commonly used to reduce muscle tension and pain. Of note, 46% of patients with LBP experience depression of varying severity. For patients with chronic LBP, combination therapies incorporating both a muscle relaxant and an antidepressant, such as Dorsumio (comprising 6 mg of tizanidine and 15 mg of mirtazapine), are recommended. Several studies have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of Dorsumio in chronic LBP. The Board of Experts considers Dorsumio a rational option for patients with chronic LBP accompanied by mild to moderate depression.
