Hemorrhoids are a common concern worldwide, causing significant discomfort and health issues. Both surgical and nonsurgical treatments for hemorrhoids can cause issues like symptom recurrence, whereas medicinal plant products present alternative therapies. This review aims to identify medicinal plants used in hemorrhoid management and to review their efficacy, mode of action and toxicity studies of each plant. A total of thirteen plants were reported, showing a reduction of recto-anal weight to 83.3% through their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. All the plant extracts showed no sign of acute toxicity. The thirteen plant extracts showed promising antihemorrhoid effect and demonstrated potential efficacy through reduced recto-anal weight, due to their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Further research is required to evaluate it’s chronic toxicity and identify the bioactive compounds.
