This chapter discusses the multimodality of protest artifacts used in the anti-extradition bill movement in Hong Kong in 2019–2020, including Post-it notes, images, graffiti, and other means that filled the streets, shopping malls, and social media. Using social semiotics frameworks, this chapter would argue that these artifacts demonstrate the promising potential of multimodality in drawing popular culture, and linguistic and nonlinguistic resources to create new meanings in sustaining and advocating for social movements. The chapter would end by arguing that it is the responsibility of educators to understand the role multimodality plays in social action that affects everyone on a daily basis.
