Planning and Design Approach for the Reclamation of an Abandoned Marble Quarry: The Case of Kırtepe (Isparta)

This study examines the planning and design approaches developed for the landscape repair of a disused marble quarry located in the Kırtepe area of Isparta. The study analyses and evaluates the site’s existing natural and cultural landscape characteristics, topographical and ecological conditions, transport links, spatial, social and economic usage potentials, and opportunities for redevelopment. As a result of these analyses, a holistic landscape repair approach has been proposed, incorporating ecological rehabilitation measures appropriate to the site’s existing character, alongside reclamation measures that include recreational and socio-economic reuse approaches. Consequently, an integrated landscape repair approach was developed in which strategic planning decisions were translated into structural and planting implementation plans, detailed design solutions, and three-dimensional visualizations.
