Physiological and Genetic Study of a Sample of Hypertensive Patients Treated with Candesartan

Background:
Hypertension is a multifactorial disease and is a major risk factor associated with cardiovascular events. Therefore, appropriate blood pressure control is important to prevent these events. However, only one-third of patients have effective blood pressure control, although several categories of antihypertensive medications. These disappointing results may be explained, at least in part, by inter-patient variability in drug response due to genetic polymorphisms. Recently, a new approach that takes into account interactions between genes has also been applied in the treatment of hypertension.
Objectives:
The effect of candesartan on kidney function and to know the extent to which the genotype of individuals is affected by candesartan through single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs3758785) of GPR83 Gene.
Materials and Methods:
A total of 120 individuals participated in this study and they were divided into three groups, each group consisting of 40 individuals. Each of these groups was subjected to two different physiological tests, which consist of renal function tests (creatinine–blood urea–uric acid), hormonal tests including melting (highly resolution melting [HRM]) analysis.

Candesartan is a safe treatment for the kidneys and maintains the hormones that affect blood pressure at concentrations close to normal levels. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs3758785) of GPR83 Gene have an effect on candesartan.
