Subject. The article presents the immediate and long-term results of complex treatment of patients with chronic generalized periodontitis, according to the methodology developed by the authors. The prevalence of periodontal disease does not tend to decrease, stimulating the optimization of standard therapy. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of complex treatment of chronic generalized periodontitis using photodynamic therapy and naturally occurring medicines on the dental status and intensity of peroxidation in the oral cavity. Methodology. Two groups of 70 patients aged 35-44 years with chronic generalized periodontitis (70 people) and 25 healthy individuals were examined. The patients in the comparison group received standard complex treatment, the main group additionally received photoactivated therapy, irrigation of the oral cavity with propolis solution, rinsing with aqueous infusion of medicinal plants and condensed alfalfa extract. The immediate and long-term treatment results were evaluated based on the dental indices PMA, KPI, SBi, PI, OHI-s and the level of lipoperoxidation products reacting with thiobarbituric acid in the oral fluid after 14 days, as well as 3 and 6 months after complex treatment. Results. Comprehensive treatment of patients with chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity, including photoactivated therapy and natural remedies, significantly improves the indices of KPI, PMA, PI, SBi and the level of lipid peroxidation products in the oral fluid than with standard therapy. Conclusions. The developed complex treatment of chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity with the use of photoactivated therapy and medicinal products based on natural components helps to stabilize the process and long-term remission.
