Phenols: From Replacing to Embracing
Gilles OuvryMedicinal chemists are routinely faced with a strategic decision: should they keep a phenol group on their chemotype or do all things in their power to replace it? This short perspective will highlight recent examples of successful phenol‐containing compounds, trying to understand what is unique about the phenol moiety, and perhaps reducing a bit of the associated stigma attached to this functional group.
