Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Vangeshwara Rasa is an important preparation described in many classical texts of Rasashastra . In the present study, the reference for Vangeshwara Rasa was selected from the text Rasendra Sara Sangraha , wherein the ingredients, viz. Rasasindoora and Vanga bhasma , are present in equal quantities and are indicated for the management of Prameha (diabetes). The study highlights the pharmaceutical preparation process and presents the preliminary analytical profile of Vangeshwara Rasa .

METHODS:

Vangeshwara Rasa was prepared as mentioned in Rasendra Sara Sangraha . Throughout the pharmaceutical process, every component was well combined and triturated as per the textual methods. The pharmaceutical and analytical parameters were compiled, and data were recorded.

RESULTS:

Vangeshwara Rasa was smooth in texture, pinkish in color, and tasteless and odorless. The physicochemical analysis of Vangeshwara Rasa revealed a pH of 9.0, loss on drying of 1.4% w/w, total ash content of 52% w/w, acid-insoluble ash content of 41.90% w/w, water-soluble ash content of 6.63% w/w, hardness of 2 kg/cm 2 , friability of 0.5%, and a disintegration time of 3 min. In the X-ray diffraction (XRD) study, peaks of HgS and SnO 2 were identified.

CONCLUSION:

This study presents the pharmaceutical preparation and preliminary analysis of Vangeshwara Rasa , confirming the presence of HgS and SnO 2 through XRD.
