In a significant collaboration, high-quality powder diffraction data is being collected, enhancing the understanding of APIs and addressing challenges in phase identification at ambient conditions. This article delves into the significance of these advancements, highlighting the case study of repotrectinib, a promising cancer treatment. X-ray powder diffraction is a commonly used, non-destructive analytical technique for identifying and quantifying crystalline materials. Traditionally applied to minerals and other inorganic systems such as cements, it is increasingly finding use in the pharmaceutical industry. To identify crystalline phases, experimental powder diffraction data is compared to a database of reference patterns of pure materials. The most extensive and commonly used database is the Powder Diffraction File (PDF), produced by the International Centre for Diffraction Data (ICDD).
