Personality Predictors of Psychological Well-Being in Conscript Military Personnel

V. Sklyadneva, O. Lobza

The article examines the personal predictors of psychological well-being of conscripted military personnel. Using a number of psychodiagnostic techniques, two typological profiles have been identified: the group with a higher level of well-being is characterized by sociability, emotional stability, courage, self-control and flexibility of thinking; the group with a lower level is characterized by restraint in communication, anxiety, impulsivity and emotional instability. Regression analysis has confirmed that psychological well-being is positively influenced by personality traits such as openness to interaction, the ability to keep cool in stressful situations, determination, adaptability and strong-willed control. At the same time, the severity of certain character accentuations — in particular, the tendency to sudden mood swings, increased impressionability and anxiety — has a negative impact on the level of well-being. The results of the study make it possible to improve approaches to the psychological diagnosis of military personnel, develop targeted programs for support and prevention of maladaptation, as well as predict the risks of reducing the psycho-emotional resource in military service.
