Miodrag Filipovic, Peter Buser, Karl Skarvan, Hans-Reinhard Zerkowski, Manfred D. Seeberger

Perioperative transesophageal echocardiography is widely used to monitor cardiac surgical patients or anesthetized patients with hemodynamic instability. This case series illustrates the importance of transesophageal echocardiography for optimal care of cardiac surgical patients. It also emphasizes the significance of correct and complete performance of the echocardiographic examination and of interdisciplinary collaboration between anesthesiologists, cardiac surgeons, and cardiologists.
