The influence of modifiers based on ilmenite concentrate and high‐alumina components on the properties of periclase‐spinel refractory materials intended for lining the high‐temperature zones of rotary cement kilns has been investigated. The relevance of this study is determined by the need to develop environmentally friendly refractory materials capable of replacing periclase‐chromite refractories, whose use is limited due to the formation of toxic hexavalent chromium. Periclase, spinel, ilmenite concentrate, and various types of alumina were used for the preparation of the samples. It was established that the introduction of modifiers promotes the formation of a complex multiphase structure, thereby increasing the materials' thermal shock and corrosion resistance. According to the results of X‐ray phase analysis, the presence of periclase, spinel, monticellite, forsterite, and iron‐containing phases was identified. The physical and mechanical properties of the obtained materials were studied. The results confirm the potential of the developed periclase‐spinel materials for lining rotary cement kilns.
