Perceived perfection versus reality: social media, skin uniformity and the biopsychosocial drivers of cosmetic skin interventions

Michael Prager, Joanne Lusher

This article explores how social media-driven ideals of fl awless, uniform skin intersect with biological perceptions of health and attractiveness, psychological drivers and sociocultural infl uences. It considers the potential for pigment treatments themselves to contribute to dyschromia and advocates for a more holistic, barrier-fi rst approach to cosmetic skin interventions.
