Penetrating Trauma to the Cornea Caused by a Fish Hook: A Case Report

Abstract

Fish hook injuries are commonly reported. These injuries most commonly involve the skin of the fingers, face, scalp, and ears. Injury may occur while removing a fish from the fishing line or while casting the fishing line. Urgent medical attention is needed when the eyes, muscles, bones, joints, tendons, or ligaments are involved. Ocular injuries caused by fish hooks are rare. Here, we describe an ocular injury caused by a barbed fish hook and its surgical removal, followed by procedures for visual and cosmetic rehabilitation.
