Particle arrangement control and mechanical robustness enhancement of structurally coloured photonic balls composed of SiO₂ particles for environmentally benign inorganic colourants

Control of particle arrangement and enhancement of mechanical robustness in structurally coloured photonic balls are demonstrated. This approach offers a promising, environmentally benign alternative to conventional inorganic colourants.
