Watching smart phones in a dark environment is more likely to make the human eye feel uncomfortable, such as in a dark environment, the screen content changes lead to the screen light and dark, than the impact of ambient light is more intense. Although most smart phones have to adjust the brightness of the screen according to the ambient lighting conditions, it often causes the screen to glare or the picture is not clear. In this paper, the combination of different picture types and average image level (APL) is designed as the stimulus source, and the perceptual evaluation experiment of smart phone display is carried out in dark environment. Through the analysis of experimental data, the relative comfortable physical luminance values of different images can be obtained. This paper analyzes the mechanism of brightness perception in the human eye, develops a predictive model for brightness perception, and subsequently creates a comfort model. The goal is to establish a more effective strategy for adjusting display brightness to enhance user comfort.
