Hafsa Abid, Shahan Farooq, Alia AhmedAbstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition characterized by dry, itchy and inflamed skin. It is often associated with significant impact on quality of life and psychosocial impairment. The integration of habit reversal therapy (HRT) with effective topical or systemic interventions represents a promising yet underutilized strategy for improving outcomes in patients with AD. There are currently very limited resources available for training in HRT or its combined application with conventional treatments for AD. This study focuses on a detailed analysis of user interaction and content engagement data from the website ‘atopicskindisease.com’. This website was created as an online resource for patients and healthcare professionals to support ‘the combined approach’ in managing the itch–scratch cycle of AD. The aim of this study is to evaluate the utilization and educational impact of online digital resource designed to promote a combined approach of HRT and topical treatment in the management of AD. A retrospective observational analysis was conducted using website analytics data from atopicskindisease.com. Key usage metrics, including subscriptions, unsubscriptions, page views and resource downloads, were reviewed to assess user engagement over time. Data were analysed to evaluate patterns of utilization by patients and healthcare professionals and to identify areas for potential improvement in content accessibility and relevance. Although overall usage of the platform was modest, it was consistently accessed and remains the only digital resource offering self-guided HRT for AD. In addition to raising awareness of current treatment strategies, the website is actively used by dermatology nurses, physicians and trainees as an educational tool. Plans are underway to update and future-proof the content to better align with current eczema care needs and improve accessibility. This website remains the primary accessible platform promoting the combined use of HRT and topical therapies in AD, offering untapped potential to enhance patient outcomes.
