Abstract

Introduction

Timely interventions effectively modify situations. Managing T1D in low-income countries is daunting; thus, any positive, tide-changing support deserves encouragement

Objectives

To analyse how specific national events served as interventions that impacted mean HbA1c values.

Methods

SPAEN conducted a retrospective analysis of Nigeria’s pediatric T1D registry across 36 centres. Mean HbA1c values were evaluated against six major national events (2018–2025) to determine their specific impact on glycemic control and healthcare outcomes.

Results

From 2018–2025, pediatric T1D cases across 36 centres grew from 444 to 2,168. Quarterly monitoring increased from 25% to 51%, while tabulated events significantly influenced glycemic goal attainment and outcomes.

Conclusions

Holistic pediatric T1D management centres on insulin; consequently, any disruptions to its access or availability significantly impair glycemic control outcomes. Support is important for the LIMC, where the government gives partial or no support. With such support, diabetes education and training of health workers, good glycemic control is possible
