Outreach ideas and examples to increase public knowledge about permafrost
Melissa Ward JonesOutreach ideas and examples to increase public knowledge about permafrost
Permafrost can be a complex topic. Understanding what it is and its role in high latitude and global systems can be challenging for people who have never seen or touched it. Melissa Ward Jones discusses outreach activities she has developed to help increase public awareness of permafrost. Permafrost is defined as any ground material that remains at or below 0 °C for two or more consecutive years (IPA, 1998). While this is a simple definition, what makes permafrost complex are the interactions between temperature, various types of ground material, surface cover, water and topography.
