One Health, One Goal: Stronger Together to End Rabies

Mukesh Gangwar, Abhishek Kumar, Akansha Yadav, Archana

Every year on 28 September, the world observes World Rabies Day to raise awareness about one of the oldest and deadliest zoonotic diseases. Rabies is almost 100% fatal once clinical symptoms appear, yet it is 100% preventable through timely vaccination, proper wound care, and responsible animal management. The World Rabies Day 2026 theme, “Stronger Together,” emphasizes that eliminating rabies requires collaboration among veterinarians, doctors, public health professionals, educators, governments, researchers, and communities. For India, where dog-mediated rabies remains a significant public health challenge, this message is especially relevant. By strengthening partnerships and promoting awareness, the vision of Zero Human Deaths from Dog-Mediated Rabies becomes increasingly achievable.
