On the Effect of the Anomalous Refraction on the Latitude Observations

Abstract

The effect of the anomalous refraction due to the tilting of the air-strata of equal density in the meridian direction was studied and the correction to the normal refraction was formulated.

From aerological data by radiosonde observation in Japan we computed the tilting of the air-strata of equal density and its effect on the meredian observation.

We found the correlation between the tilting of the air-strata of equal density and the local z, term in the latitude variation from 1924 to 1934. Further we tried to explain the physical cause of the closing error by the progressive change of the atmospheric zenith.
