On Developing Enhancement Artifacts for Musical Instruments via 3D Printing: A Case Study on the Euphonium
Francesco Manenti, Marina Boselli, Francesco Ardan Dal RìAbstract
In this article, we describe our perspective on designing novel 3D-printed artifacts for enhancing the capabilities of classical musical instruments. Grounding our reflections on organology, traditional practice, and repertoire, we present a case study on designing devices for euphoniums. Artifacts are developed through a collaborative process with a professional euphoniumist, whose suggestions and expertise allows for the refinement of the prototypes and their direct evaluation in performative scenarios.
