Obstacles to Greater Adoption of Learning Technologies in Higher Education

Abstract

Despite significant technological advancements, higher education institutions continue to face critical barriers in adopting new educational technologies. This chapter systematically identifies and explores these obstacles, including institutional resistance, faculty readiness, limited financial resources, and insufficient technological infrastructure. Using recent data and case studies, the authors illustrate how these factors hinder innovation and offer strategic recommendations for overcoming them. A central argument is that successful technology integration requires comprehensive institutional commitment, faculty development, and strategic planning. By addressing these barriers proactively, institutions can enhance their capacity to deliver effective, technology-mediated education, thus better preparing students for contemporary professional environments.
