O-096 Imaging for endometriosis: from the past to the future
M K Aas-EngAbstract
Endometriosis has for many years been diagnosed through laparoscopy. However, with recent developments in imaging with non-invasive tools like transvaginal ultrasound and MRI have recently become the first line test for diagnosing endometriosis. In the last decade endometriosis surgery has also changed, requiring more advanced surgical skills. This presentation will highlight the utility of ultrasound and MRI for planning surgery for endometriosis and its limitations. The evidence behind the change in modality from laparoscopy to imaging for diagnosing endometriosis with a particular focus on ultrasound will be presented as well as considerations for the patient and the clinician diagnosing endometriosis with imaging tools. Future possibilities of imaging for endometriosis will be discussed.
