Sonchus oleraceus L. is a widely distributed wild edible leafy vegetable, traditionally consumed for its nutritional and medicinal value. The present study evaluated its nutraceutical potential through physicochemical, phytochemical, nutritional, and mineral analyses. Fresh leaves collected from Latur District, Maharashtra, were analyzed by standard AOAC methods. Physicochemical parameters, including total ash, moisture content, and extractive values, Qualitative phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, tannins, saponins, glycosides, terpenoids, and steroids. Nutritional analysis showed appreciable amounts of proteins, carbohydrates, crude fiber, and essential minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. The abundance of these nutrients and bioactive compounds indicated that S. oleraceus possess significant nutraceutical potential and may serve as a functional food for improving nutritional security and reducing oxidative stress-related disorders.
