Novel Nanocarrier-Based Therapeutics and AI-Driven Diagnostic Strategies for Enhanced Psoriasis Management
Pryanka Matta, Manpreet Kaur Walia, Jitender SinghBackground:
Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disorder characterized by hyperproliferation of keratinocytes and cytokine dysregulation. Conventional therapies-including corticosteroids, methotrexate, and cyclosporine A-are limited by poor skin penetration, systemic toxicity, and relapse upon discontinuation. This review aims to analyze the limitations of conventional psoriasis treatment and diagnosis while highlighting recent advancements in nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted diagnostic methods that address these therapeutic and diagnostic gaps.
Methods:
A comprehensive review of conventional therapies, nanocarrier-based formulations (nanoparticles, liposomes, dendrimers, nanoemulsions, microneedles, and hydrogels), and AI-driven diagnostic approaches was conducted to compare efficacy, safety, precision, and patient compliance.
Results:
Novel nanocarrier systems enhance drug bioavailability, targeting, and sustained release, while minimizing systemic side effects. Similarly, AI-assisted diagnosis using convolutional neural networks improves lesion segmentation, subtype classification, and treatment monitoring with over 90% accuracy, reducing subjectivity and enabling remote assessment.
Conclusion:
Nanotechnology-based therapies and AI-mediated diagnosis represent transformative advances in psoriasis management. Together, they overcome major shortcomings of conventional methods by enhancing precision, safety, and patient compliance. Future research should focus on large-scale clinical validation, regulatory standardization, and integration of AI with nanomedicine for next-generation, personalized psoriasis care.
