Notes on the Cultic Context of the Late Old Babylonian Title lu₂ sag.ne lugal
Nathan SteinmeyerAbstract
The title
lu₂ sag.ne lugal
– often read
lu₂ ka.kešda lugal
– is known from a handful of tablets from Sippar, Nippur, and Dūr-Abīešuḫ, primarily dating to the Late Old Babylonian period. While a few suggestions have been made regarding the meaning of this title, the discussion remains ongoing. This is especially the case with regard to the Dūr-Abīešuḫ corpus, in which most attestations are found. The present study provides a systematic analysis of the individuals who held this title and argues that it must be understood within the context of the Nippur and Sippar cults of this time.
