Nordic film culture in the twenty-first century: A balancing act

Anders Grønlund, Pietari Kääpä, Eva Novrup Redvall

This introduction frames the double Special Issue, ‘Nordic Film Culture in the Twenty-First Century’, by examining how Nordic cinema has developed since 2000. Focusing on Norway, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Denmark, it explores how small nation cinemas shaped by public funding and cultural policy have responded to shifting industrial, cultural, technological and global conditions. The issue offers a comparative assessment of Nordic cinema’s recent transformations, current tensions and possible futures.
