Non‐Contiguous Double Thyroglossal Duct Cysts: A Case Report

ABSTRACT

Thyroglossal duct cysts (TDCs) are conventionally considered solitary lesions connected to a persistent embryological tract. While rare double TDCs have been reported, they are almost invariably anatomically continuous. We report a paradigm‐shifting case of non‐contiguous double TDCs in a 50‐year‐old male, featuring two anatomically discrete cysts at the left vallecula and infrahyoid region with no interconnecting tract, to our knowledge, a finding not previously documented in this distinct anatomical configuration. Both lesions were completely excised and pathologically confirmed. This case challenges the conventional understanding of thyroglossal duct embryology and underscores the need for surgeons to anticipate and manage multiple independent remnants, which may require modifications to the standard Sistrunk procedure to ensure complete resection.
