Abstract

The difunctionalization of gem-dichloroalkanes enables installation of two functional groups on a single carbon, representing a valuable strategy, yet it has remained challenging. Herein, we report a nickel-catalyzed reductive 1,1-diarylation of gem-dichloroalkanes with aryl bromides under mild conditions. The protocol efficiently constructs diarylalkanes and fluorenes, featuring a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance. Gram-scale synthesis and facile preparation of medicinally relevant intermediates with diarylalkane skeletons further highlight their practical value.
