New Texts Relating to Ur-Šulpaʾe, a Lionkeeper

Abstract

This article studies four previously unpublished Ur III administrative texts from the Iri-Saĝrig province that were confiscated and are now preserved in the Iraq Museum, Baghdad. The texts record rations of meat (carcasses of oxen and sheep) as fodder for lions, bread, and soup received by Ur-Šulpaʾe, a lionkeeper ( sipa ur-mah ), under the supervision of Niridagal and Ur-Enlila. The texts date to Šu-Suʾen 6/III.
