Abstract

The Multi-Object Spectrograph (MOSAIC) for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) will revolutionize our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution. It enables high-resolution spectral studies of the Milky Way and distant galaxies using multiple Integral Field Units. A key component of MOSAIC is the Instrument Core Sub-System (ICOS), which provides critical structural support and ensures stability under extreme conditions, including heavy loads, seismic activity, and temperature changes. Here outlined some design challenges faced by the mechanical engineers in developing ICOS, including meeting stringent performance requirements, optimizing the structure within limited space, and using advanced generative techniques.
