Navigating Climate Risk for Resilience: A Roadmap of Research Patterns and Emerging Trends

Joana Rebelo, Hélia Pereira, Carlos Manuel Pinheiro, Marco Ferreira Ribeiro

ABSTRACT

Climate risk has become a defining challenge for business strategy, yet its research landscape remains fragmented across disciplines. This study maps the intellectual structure of climate risk research through a bibliometric analysis enriched with latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic modeling of 2715 peer‐reviewed articles. Our analysis first identifies the following six consolidated research patterns: (1) climate adaptation and community resilience, (2) climate risk and insurance mechanisms, (3) climate finance and green investment, (4) climate extremes and scenario modeling, (5) climate impacts and agricultural resilience, and (6) climate mitigation and energy transition. Analysis of the 2020–2024 literature reveals four emerging trends: urban climate adaptation, climate risk and financial stability, extreme climate events and climate modeling, agriculture, food security and household security. The findings indicate a shift toward integrated approaches connecting the physical, social, and financial dimensions of climate risk. The resulting roadmap identifies converging risks and strategic priorities for organizational resilience while providing policymakers with an evolving evidence base to support climate governance and informed decision‐making under deepening uncertainty.
