Navigating Academic Belonging in India: Caste, Ethnicity and the Politics of Recognition in Higher Education
Prithiraj BorahAlthough Indian higher education has become more socially diverse, meaningful inclusion remains uneven. Drawing on conversations with scholars from marginalized caste backgrounds from India’s Northeast, this article examines how caste and ethnic identities shape academic experiences. Using the concepts of institutional habitus, intersectionality and epistemic injustice, it shows how marginalized scholars continue to face exclusion despite formal inclusion.
