National Study on Professional Accounting Education: Initial Results on Department/Professional School Differences.

Abstract

This paper reports the results of the pilot phase of the National Study on Professional Accounting Education (NSOPAE). These findings, based on questionnaire responses from 857 accounting majors at 18 American colleges and universities, reveal interesting differences In the professional development of accounting students based on their enrollment in either Professional Schools of Accountancy or traditional accounting departments. These student differences, as well as similarities, are discussed, Implications for future research and for the application of the findings to the improvement of accounting education are discussed.
