NANOTECHNOLOGY IN ENSURING ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY OF OIL AND GAS FACILITIES

Aleksey Ivanov, Lyudmila Medvedeva, Oleg Savchuk

The causes of severe consequences for the ecosystems of accidental spills of oil and oil products of oil and gas facilities are disclosed. The environmental consequences of the world's largest accident on the Deepwater Horizon oil platform (April 20, 2010) and the «environmental disaster» after the tanker accident in the Kerch Strait (December 15, 2024) are given. An objective need was noted for the development of new methods and means of operational control of the physicochemical properties of circulating substances and materials at oil and gas complex facilities. To ensure the environmental safety of oil and gas complex facilities, on the experimental basis of the nanotechnology laboratory of Saint-Petersburg university of State fire service of EMERCOM of Russia developed: methods for modifying nanofluids; methods of controlling the physicochemical and realogical properties of flammable liquids; methods of using nanostructured sorbents to prevent flammable liquids ignition; methods of using nanomaterials for the manufacture of combat clothing for firefighters. The results of experimental studies confirming the effectiveness of using nanotechnology for the development of new methods and means for ensuring the environmental safety of oil and gas complex facilities are presented. The need to develop scientific and methodological foundations for modifying fire extinguishing and protective compositions to control fire safety processes at oil and gas complex facilities is justified.
