Abstract

The growing demand for multifunctional materials that combine strong mechanical properties with environmentally friendly functions is driving a need for advanced fibrous composites. This chapter highlights the benefits of micro/nanofibers infused with hybrid nanoclays such as montmorillonite, halloysite nanotubes, and bentonite. A sustainable manufacturing approach using waste-derived clay precursors to meet circular economy principles is emphasized. Integration of nanoclays into a polymer matrix results in significant structural reinforcement and enhances the pollutant adsorption capability of functionalized nanofibrous mats. Future research directions to address challenges are also discussed. Ongoing innovation for these materials could help in creating a cleaner, more sustainable future.
