Mycophenolate Mofetil-Induced Colitis in a Patient With Lupus Nephritis
Edwin Mendoza, Kunal Sharma, Shivangini Duggal, Lakshmi Kattamuri, Venkata Abhilash Muthineni, Aimee Hechanova, Abhizith DeokerMycophenolate mofetil is an immunomodulator drug widely used in several autoimmune conditions and postorgan transplant periods to counter graft rejection. Gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain are well known, but more serious side effects, such as colitis, are less common and frequently reported in post-transplant recipients. We report a rare case of mycophenolate mofetil-induced colitis in a young female with systemic lupus erythematosus, manifesting as nonbloody diarrhea that was diagnosed with the help of colonic histopathology findings.
