My Life as a Reader, My Love of Hawthorne, and How It Emerged
Monika ElbertABSTRACT
The following short article is based on the May 2025 talk Elbert gave at the ALA conference in Boston in the “Passing It On” session organized by Richard Kopley.
Elbert has previously published an essay that is more traditional thematically and stylistically than what is written here, so she wanted it to be different and not repetitive. That earlier essay, titled “My Life with Hawthorne,” appeared in volume 46, number 1, of the Nathaniel Hawthorne Review (2020).
