ABSTRACTObjective: This study aims to draw attention to waste management practices in healthcare institutions, evaluate the current situation in the hospital where the study was conducted, and contribute to sustainable improvement efforts by enhancing the awareness levels of healthcare workers. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2023 and January 2024 in an education and research hospital in Balıkesir. Data were collected from 484 healthcare professionals, including 251 physicians and 233 nurses. Results: The participants' knowledge, attitude, behavior, educational requirement and compliance with occupational safety are generally at a good level. The attitude score received the highest score among the sub-dimensions. The participants over the age of 35, nurses, experienced, and trained individuals had the highest occupational safety compliance. The greatest need for training was identified postgraduate participants, those working 8 hours or less daily, and individuals without prior training. A generally positive correlation was observed between the sub-dimensions. Conclusion: This study revealed that beyond the knowledge, attitude, and behaviour factors in the management of healthcare-related waste, occupational safety compliance and training needs are also influential, indicating a multidimensional structure.
