ABSTRACT

Motoric cognitive risk syndrome (MCR)—characterized by subjective cognitive complaints and slow gait in people without dementia or mobility disability—is an emerging predementia stage. To characterize the evolution, collaboration structure, and thematic organization of MCR research, we performed a bibliometric and visual analysis using Web of Science Core Collection records published between January 1, 2013, and July 30, 2026. Following dual‐investigator screening, 238 English‐language original articles and reviews (from 308 records) were analyzed using VOSviewer (v1.6.19) and CiteSpace (v 6.4.R2). Annual publication volume accelerated post‐2020, peaking at 56 records in 2025. China led in total publication volume, whereas the United States demonstrated the highest country‐level network connectivity. Thematic mapping revealed a core focus on cognitive impairment, dementia, gait, and older‐adult research, with recent shifts toward neuroimaging and physical activity interventions. Citation‐burst analysis highlighted a progression from foundational cohort studies to definition harmonization and multidomain research. While bibliometric mapping reflects academic output rather than clinical validity, these findings underscore the need for standardized diagnostic criteria, prospective validation, and scalable multidisciplinary studies.
